Italy - Travel Guide

Italy, the country shaped like a “boot”, is located in Southern Europe and occupies a peninsula surrounded by Alps. Italy is known for its deeply rich history of art and architecture, with its significance resting on the birthplace of the Renaissance; the “rebirth” of the cultural, political and economic paradigms of the Middle Ages.

Rome, the capital, is located in central Italy and is home to just some of the rich ancient history that Italy is famous for. Rome was built in 735BC and was the capital of the Roman Empire, the most influential civilization in history that ruled Europe for over 1000 years. Its magnificent ancient structures such as the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain are just some of Rome's main attractions; its beauty is reinforced with more than 2,500 years of culture, religion and art.

All the way down south is the Amalfi Coast. It captures a unique Mediterranean coastline that has a stunning landscape of mountains scattered with narrow stairways and terraces, which plunges into sparkling blue waters below. It is among the UNESCO World Heritage list, and was once an important port for trade to North Africa in the 11th and 12th Centuries. In the summer time, whilst the Amalfi Coast attracts many tourists, its visceral views are beyond breathtaking and undeniably beautiful, and is a must see if travelling to Italy!

Venice is a city located in northern Italy. It is a collection of islands that are joined by many canals and bridges; this champions Venice the title of “The Floating City”. As there are no roads, one must enjoy a relaxing gondola ride or walk amongst the intricate architecture to get around the city. It is here that you can explore the largest piazza in Venice, St. Mark’s Square which also includes the famous St. Mark’s Basilica, Rialto Bridge which was first built in the 12th Century, or the Gothic Doge’s Palace.

Whether you’re looking for rich history and archeological greatness, or breathtaking scenic views or perhaps just a romantic stroll along some of the worlds most beautiful cities, Italy is certainly the place to visit!
