Singapore - Travel Guide

One of only 3 remaining city-states worldwide, Singapore consists of 63 islands many of which are uninhabited and waiting to be explored. Having been a part of the British Empire until 1965, one of the main languages spoken in Singapore is English, allowing for ease of communication for post international travellers. From cutting edge technology in the city centre to hiking trails in the north and beaches in the South, the country offers a range of activities the satisfy every desire.

The mainland of Singapore is world-renowned for its impressive and futuristic skyline, boasting the world’s largest public cantilevered platform at the Marina Bay Sands and the world’s largest glass greenhouse at the Gardens by the Bay. Also located within the Gardens by the Bay, are the Supertree Groves, these symbolise a synergetic relationship between technology and nature, whereby exotic ferns, vines and orchids are housed within a simulated environment that mimic the function of trees. These Supertree Groves are illuminated on a nightly basis, with a coordinated show of light and music, this is known as the Garden Rhapsody. Also situated on the mainland is the Boat Quay which is always bustling with people and entertainment, and is an amazing place of dinner after a long day of sightseeing. A number of different restaurants can be found here, that serve everything from Japanese Steak to a North Indian cuisine.

Located off the mainland, Sentosa is an island that receives 20 million annual visitors due to its Golden beaches, theme parks and an assortment of clubs, bars and casinos. Of the many beaches that can be found here, the ones that stand out the most are the Tanjong, Palawan and Siloso Beach. Among soaking in the sun there are a number of other activities that are available here, including a club, volleyball, and a variety of interesting shops and eateries. Besides being home to one of two casinos in Singapore, the island also houses the WooBar and Bikini Bar, offering a great experience of the nightlife in Singapore.

Another island, though much less known is Lazarus Island. This location withholds a quiet and serene beach that is often overlooked and as a result, is generally quite empty. Accessible via ferry, Lazarus Island offers the opportunity to relax and get away from the city life in surrounding Singapore. Alongside providing the opportunity to tan in peace, the Island also offers the opportunity to discover a wide range of wildlife from reptiles and eagles to a turtle sanctuary.

Despite being on the expensive side, Singapore is an experience that no other country can provide, from a central hub on the mainland where modern technology and architecture leave you in awe, to a vast array of islands that give you an opportunity to explore another side of Singapore in any way you wish
